The April outing for the Katahdin Club of Island Falls recently took place at the River Cafe in Island Falls. A total of 14 members and guests enjoyed a variety of items from the menu and the view from the deck of Mattawamkeag River in full flood as the spring waters flowed by.

Attending the outing were Rachel Daniels, Paige Coville, Bonnie McKeen, Gloria Willigar, Nora Willigar, Marilyn Somers, Donna Grass, Sandra McNally, Leithia Porter, Laura Bomba, Gail Willigar, Mary Moore, Mary Fowler, Elinor Savage, Linda Depew and Rebecca Drew.

The regular Club meetings will resume on May 10 with a potluck lunch at noon at the Crystal Wesleyan Church. The River Cafe will offer a Mother’s Day Brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For reservations call 463-7001.

On Saturday, May 13, the Island Falls Fish and Game Club will hold a work day and its annual meeting. Work will begin at 10 a.m. putting in the docks and cleaning the clubhouse, weather permitting. A potluck meal at noon will be followed by the annual business meeting. A reminder that yearly dock fees are due by June 1.

The monthly VFW supper is Saturday May 20, at 5:30 p.m. The VFW will hold a Memorial Day Cemetery Honors ceremony at 1 p.m. at the Island Falls Cemetery. The IF Cemetery committee will hold a spring clean-up at the cemetery on Friday, May 19, from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are welcome with rakes and gloves. Reminder: Call the town office to ascertain if the cemetery is open for traffic for the season.

Prior to the bi-monthly Island Falls Selectman’s meeting, Wednesday, May 3, a social time was held to say farewell to Town Manager David Dionne. Office staff, members of the various boards and committees, fire and ambulance personnel and community members enjoyed refreshments and visited with Dionne before he leaves to take a new position in the Mapleton area. At the same time, congratulations and welcome were given to interim Manager Jutta Byer, who will serve in the position for a period of time.
