HOULTON, Maine — The Maine Forest Service, the Southern Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District, and Houlton/Hodgdon Adult and Community Education will be holding a three-hour forestry workshop at the Houlton Higher Education Center Tuesday evening, May 16.
The focus of the workshop will be Maine’s forest economy and the value of certification within the forest products industry. The Maine Forest Service is part of the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry.
Presenters will include Eric Kingsley from Innovative Natural Resource Solutions; Pat Sirois from Maine’s Sustainable Forestry Initiative; and Pat Strauch from the Maine Forest Products Council.
Innovative Natural Resource Solutions is a natural resource consulting firm with offices in Maine and New Hampshire. Eric Kingsley’s presentation will focus on the state of Maine’s forest economy, the challenges within the forest products industry, and emerging opportunities for businesses that rely on Maine’s forest resources.
Maine’s Sustainable Forestry Initiative is a program designed to ensure that the forests in Maine and across the country are managed sustainably. Pat Sirois will provide an overview of logger, landowner, and mill certification.
The Maine Forest Products Council has been the voice of Maine’s forest economy since 1961. The Council represents member’s interests at the Maine Legislature, around the state, in Washington D.C., and across the nation. Pat Strauch will introduce the audience to Maine’s Forest Economic Growth Initiative.
