Katahdin Trust gift creates new scholarship

BANGOR, Maine — Katahdin Trust Company presented a $500 donation to the Maine Better Transportation Association (MBTA) Educational Foundation on May 4, 2017. The donation will help launch the Frank A. Healy Scholarship Fund. Once established, the fund will award scholarships to deserving Maine students who are studying transportation-related fields of study.

“We appreciate the opportunity to participate in a fundraising effort that will result in honoring Frank Healy in perpetuity,” said Bill Lucy, senior vice president of commercial services at Katahdin Trust. “Frank dedicated his life to community service and creating a scholarship in his name is the ideal way to carry on his legacy.”

“Setting up a scholarship through the MBTA Educational Foundation helps highlight Frank’s unwavering dedication to the MBTA and the transportation construction community,” said Rodney Lane of Lane Construction. “Like Frank, we hope the students who receive this scholarship show potential to become leaders in the industry.”

During Healy’s tenure with the MBTA board, his leadership and commitment to a vibrant transportation system helped shape the landscape of the association. He helped expand the association’s geographical reach by adding meetings in Aroostook and Washington counties to ensure Maine’s rural counties were represented. In addition, he founded the MBTA Infrastructure Fund in 1994. Today, the fund is almost self-sustaining.

Contributions to the Frank A. Healy Scholarship can be made to MBTA Educational Foundation, 146 State Street, Augusta, ME 04330.
