A break in the weather translated into several games being played in central and southern Aroostook County May 11, 12 and 13.

The busiest of all the schools may have been Central Aroostook. The Panther softball and baseball teams played three games in a 24-hour period and experienced great success.

Coach Julie Conrad’s CA girls won all three games and broke a season-long losing streak in the process. They are now 3-4 and climbed into playoff contention by grabbing the 13th and final post-season slot in Class D North.

The Panther boys, coached by Butch Richardson, won two of its three games and also now are 3-4 and in 10th place in the baseball rankings.

The CA squads resume their busy stretch with games today at Madawaska beginning at 4 p.m. Other games on the schedule Monday include Hodgdon traveling to Limestone to take on the LCS/MSSM Eagles at 4 p.m. and the Washburn baseball team hosting Wisdom of St. Agatha, also at 4 p.m.

About 15 minutes prior to the Eagles’ home games, a scoreboard and field naming dedication will be held at Howard and Zeta Lello Memorial Field at Limestone Community School).

Houlton was slated to play Calais Monday, but the Shires’ fields were deemed unsuitable to play. Those games have been rescheduled to Saturday, May 27, at 1 p.m. Ashland’s scheduled games against Fort Kent also were postponed and will be a part of a doubleheader in Fort Kent, also on May 27, beginning at 10 a.m.

The following is a recap of other games played Thursday, May 11 through Saturday, May 13.

Softball
Central Aroostook 15, Ashland 11 — The Panthers bolted out to a big lead early but had to hold on to defeat the Hornets Saturday morning in Ashland.

Breanne Bradbury drove in three runs with a pair of hits for CA, while Morgan Doughty ripped three doubles and knocked in four runs for the Hornets.

Caitlyn Harris earned the pitching victory and Cassidy Pelletier took the loss.

Central Aroostook 14, Shead 5 — The Panthers capped their successful weekend with another strong showing, this time at home against Shead on Saturday.

Houlton 16, Fort Kent 2 — At Houlton Saturday, in the first game of a doubleheader, Mikayla Fitzpatrick pitched a two-hitter to lead the Shires to victory. Tyra Gentle had two hits and three RBIs for Houlton. Aspen Flewelling also notched two hits.

Aisha Guimond and Lea Pelletier each singled for Fort Kent.

Houlton 13, Fort Kent 8 — In the second game of the doubleheader, Emma Peterson had three hits, including a double and triple to lead the Shires to a doubleheader sweep of Fort Kent. Flewelling recorded three hits, drove in two runs for Houlton, while Gentle also notched three hits.

For Fort Kent, Maddie Saucier and Pelletier each tallied a pair of hits.

LCS/MSSM 12, Washburn 0 — The Eagles are now 3-2 after handling the Beavers in the early-morning game Saturday in Limestone. Individual results were not reported.

MDI 5, Presque Isle 2 — Lyndsey McEachern struck out 13 batters and her Trojans scored all five of their runs in the top of the seventh inning Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader played in Presque Isle.

Maddie Thornton led MDI with three hits.

Faith Leavitt also struck out 13 for PI in the loss. She allowed just one earned run.

Presque Isle 5, MDI 4 — The Wildcats came back to win the second game behind the pitching of Leavitt (four strikeouts in the complete game) and a balanced offense.

Rebecca Rider, Savannah Rodriguez, Kayla Saucier, Sydney Thompson, Amy Seeley and Anna Trombley all had singles for PI, which bounced back from the tough loss by scoring three times in the first inning.

Old Town 19, Caribou 0; Old Town 12, Caribou 0 — The Coyotes are now 9-2 and atop the Class B North Heal Point rankings after a pair of easy wins over the winless Vikings of Caribou on Saturday in Old Town. Individual results were not reported.

Katahdin 25, Deer Isle-Stonington 10; Katahdin 18, Deer Isle-Stonington 10 — The Cougars won their first two games of the season. Individual results were not reported.

Hodgdon 21, Ashland 16 — At Ashland Friday, the visiting Hawks walked away with the win as Hodgdon took advantage of 20 walks to win its ninth contest. Megan Russell collected two singles and Sidney Crane added three singles and three RBIs for Hodgdon (9-0).

For Ashland (1-4), Amber Chasse recorded two singles and a double.

Central Aroostook 11, Washburn 3 — The Panthers won for the first time and the Beavers remained winless following Friday’s contest in Mars Hill. Harris was solid on the mound with 10 strikeouts and she joined teammates Bradbury and Annika Nicholas with two hits apiece.

Lexi Carney and Maci Barker had a hit each for the Beavers.

Presque Isle 10, Caribou 1 — Faith Leavitt allowed just three hits over seven innings and collected 10 strikeouts along the way as Presque Isle prevailed and kept the Vikings winless. Savannah Rodriguez singles three times and Sydney Thompson tripled and singled for PI.

“Our defense was very good as we committed one error,” said Wildcat coach Terry Cummings. “[Offensively], we were able to play some small ball to keep pressure on the Vikings’ defense.”

LCS/MSSM 3, Fort Kent 2 — Delaney Rossignol surrendered only one hit, by Desiree Hafford, in the complete-game performance as the Eagles made it three consecutive wins Thursday by topping the Warriors (0-5).

Rossignol banged out a pair of hits and drove in a run, while teammates Victoria Eichorn and Lasha Butler each had two hits and an RBI for LCS/MSSM.

Baseball
Central Aroostook 14, Ashland 8 — In the first of their two games played Saturday, the Panthers broke open a close game by tallying four runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Hornets in Ashland.
Caleb Harris and Ben Thomas both doubled and singled for CA, while Daniel Wortman ripped a pair of doubles for the Hornets (2-4).
Shead 7, Central Aroostook 5 — The Panthers fell just short in their afternoon home game against Shead of Eastport. Ben Thomas took the pitching loss and Colby Kingsbury came on in relief. Coach Butch Richardson said Lane Grass caught both games and played well throughout.
Houlton 14, Fort Kent 0 — At Houlton Saturday, in the first game of a doubleheader, Shire Cameron Graham tossed a one-hitter, with 11 strikeouts, as Houlton mercied Fort Kent in five innings. Nick Botting notched three hits and five RBIs and Nick Perfitt two hits and three RBIs for the Shiretowners.

C.J. Rouchelle tallied the lone hit for Fort Kent with a single.

Houlton 14, Fort Kent 1 — In the second game of the doubleheader, the Shires once again were victorious in a five-inning contest. Pat Howe struck out eight for the Shires. Graham, Botting, Nick Perfitt and Tyler Bailey all recorded two hits in a balanced offense for Houlton.

For Fort Kent, Austin Plourde knocked out a pair of hits.

MDI 4, Presque Isle 3 — The Trojans scored three unearned runs to defeat the Wildcats in the first game of a twinbill played in Presque Isle Saturday. Mac Shea led MDI with two hits, while Nick Bartlett was PI’s lone repeat hitter with a pair of singles.

MDI 10, Presque Isle 1 — In game two, Shea and James McConomy had three hits each as the Trojans completed the sweep. Bartlett singled and scored the lone run for 3-6 Presque Isle.

Old Town 12, Caribou 10; Old Town 10, Caribou 0 — The Coyotes won Saturday’s home doubleheader by shutting down the Vikings’ offense. The Coyotes are in first place in Class B North with a 9-2 record, while the Vikes are now 0-6 to begin the season. Individual results were not reported.

Katahdin 4, Deer Isle-Stonington 1 — At Deer Isle, in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday, May 13, Brody Guiggey (1 hit, 4 walks, 8 strikeouts) and Cooper Drew (1 strikeout) shared pitching duties in the win. Drew helped his cause with three hits and a run.

Ethan Shepard tallied the lone hit for the Mariners (2-4).

Katahdin 13, Deer Isle-Stonington 2 — In the second game, Blake Howes (2 hits, 5 walks, 2 strikeouts) and Dalton Hartt (1 hit, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts) shared pitching duties. Drew and Howes both tallied two hits in the game as the Cougars improved to 8-0 on the season.

Hodgdon 11, Ashland 10 — The Hawks improved to 5-4 by avoiding an upset bid by Ashland Friday in Hodgdon. Individual results were not reported.

Central Aroostook 10, Washburn 1 — Taylor Campbell paced the Panther offense with three hits and he scored twice, while Zachary Crouch fanned 10 batters and tossed a three-hitter as Central Aroostook notched a convincing home win over Washburn Friday.

McCall Turner, Carver Pendexter and Noah White all singled for the Beavers.

LCS/MSSM 13, Wisdom 3; LCS/MSSM 9, Wisdom 3 — The Eagles picked up a sweep of the Friday doubleheader held in St. Agatha. LCS/MSSM evened its record at 3-3, while the Pioneers fell to 1-4.

East Grand 18, Highview Christian 0 — At Danforth May 11, Sam Plummer drove in two runs on a pair of hits to lead the Vikings past Highview Christian of Charleston. Trevor Noyes collected two hits and scored two runs for East Grand (1-4)
