PERHAM, Maine — Aroostook County sheriff’s deputies intercepted a man and woman fleeing the scene of a reported theft in Perham Tuesday, May 16, and arrested the pair for the crime.
According to Sheriff Darrell Crandall, just before 1 p.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to a report of a theft in progress on the Ericson Road in Perham. A man who was keeping an eye on his neighbor’s home had confronted a man and woman who appeared to be stealing a number of items from the property, Crandall indicated via a press release.
As four deputy sheriffs were responding from different directions, the man tried to block the pair’s escape, but they were able to get by him in a pickup truck and flee the scene. He followed them and provided location updates to public safety dispatchers. Within 10 minutes of being dispatched, Deputy Sheriff Chad Foley intercepted the vehicle on the Pratt Road in Perham and was able to get the vehicle stopped.
The man, identified as Jonathan “Tim” Monahan, 56, of Caribou, complied with commands from the deputy, but his daughter, 33-year-old Ashley Monahan, actively resisted arrest. The deputy took both into custody.
Jonathan Monahan is currently on deferred disposition for a pervious theft offense. Deputies seized the unregistered Chevrolet pickup the suspects were driving and had it towed to Caribou, where they inventoried the stolen property. The back of the truck was full. Items stolen in this theft include auto parts and scrap metal.
Officers took both suspects to the Aroostook County Jail, where they remain.
Jonathan Monahan was charged with theft, criminal trespass and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. Ashley Monahan was charged with theft, criminal trespass and failure to submit to arrest.
Bail has not yet been set.
