The Houlton boys and girls tennis teams continue to search for their elusive first wins of the season.
Houlton was slated to play Madawaska Friday, but that match was canceled when the Owls bus experienced problems and could not make the trip to Houlton. The Shires were also scheduled to play at Presque Isle Monday, but that match was postponed due to weather.
Houlton will try to get back on track Wednesday when the teams host Van Buren at 3:30 p.m.
Against Mattanawcook Academy Tuesday, May 9, the Shires played an abbreviated doubleheader due to weather. Instead of traditional five individual matches, only four were played.
Mattanawcook Academy girls 4, Houlton 0 — At Houlton, the individual results, with Shires listed first were: in singles, Sydney Lorom lost to Sydney Morrison, 3-8; and Maddie Grant fell to Katie Libby, 1-8. Third singles was not played due to rain. In doubles, Nadia Messerschmidt and Tessa McCormick lost to Emily Tolman and Sydney Jones, 0-8; and Carolyn Hannigan and Grace Johnson lost to Sarah Hanington and Delany Kneeland, 0-8.
Results for the second girls contest were not reported.
Mattanawcook Academy boys 4, Houlton 0 — At Houlton, the individual results, with Shires listed first were: in singles, Owen Gallop lost to John Farmington, 4-8; and Devin Ivey fell to Dave Susen, 0-8. In doubles, Jaron Gentle and Isaac Vega lost to Alex Brown and Tyler Tolman, 1-8; and Tim Youngfellow and Nate Delucca fell to Devin Maynard and Joe Susen, 4-8.
Mattanawcook boys 4, Houlton 0 — In the second match of the doubleheader, Nolan Porter lost to Jeff Garfield, 6-8; and Ivey lost to D. Susen 4-8. In doubles, Gentle and Vega fell to Brown and Tolman, 4-8; and DeLucca and Nolan Jacob lost to Maynard and J. Susen, 1-8.
