The Presque Isle Wildcats still had five tennis matches to get in before the Thursday, May 25, 2017 cutoff, with the playoffs looming the following week.
Presque Isle took on MDI Tuesday, May 16 in a road match, while they face Fort Kent in a doubleheader Thursday, May 18 before hosting Houlton Monday, May 22 in makeup and Caribou next Tuesday, May 23.
PI hosted Old Town Friday. The boys lost by a score of 3-2 in what was a competitive match, with all the five individual matches decided by a two-game margin. Mason Young prevailed in third singles, defeating Jake Cyr, 8-6. The duo of Brandon McKnight and Austin Moreau also won 8-6 in second doubles.
The girls posted a 4-1 victory. Sarah Morneault beat Rhyelan Burke in No. 1 singles, 8-1, while Hana Boucher edged Meagan Grindle in third singles, 8-6. Miranda Bragan defeated Hope Dorr by injury default in No. 2 singles. Anna Robinson and Ellie Goheen blanked Kyra Armitage and Hannah Swedberg, 8-0, in first doubles.
The boys had a 5-2 record entering the MDI match, placing them ninth in Class B North. The top 11 advance into the post-season. The girls were also 5-2, but are in 13th and currently out of the playoff picture.
