East Grand unveils honor parts

DANFORTH, Maine — East Grand School principal Margaret White has announced the honor parts for the graduating class of 2017. The valedictorian for this year is Paige Young, salutatorian is Hannah Crone and first honor essayist is Joshua Jones.

Young is the daughter of Lynette Young and Eric Young of Weston. She has accomplished much during her high school career. She has been on the honor or high honor roll all four years, was inducted into the National Honor Society her sophomore year and has been class treasurer for the last three years.

Young loves the game of soccer and played for five years and was named co-captain her junior and senior years. She has volunteered for many organizations, including Community Cleanup Day, Toys for Tots and the Susan G. Komen Walk for Breast Cancer. She has also helped with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk-a-Thon and for the last five years has been the co-coordinator for this event.

Young is a member of the Junior Fire Fighters program at the Danforth Fire Department. She recently completed numerous volunteer hours while attending UMO’s college prep program during the summer of 2016. She has been awarded some very distinguished awards this year which include the Phi Beta Kappa and Dartmouth Book Award. She will attend Husson College in the fall, having already earned 30 college credits. Her goal is to obtain a master’s degree in business administration for accounting.

Crone is the daughter of April Crone and Marc Crone of Danforth. She has been very busy during her high school career both in sports and academics. Crone was inducted into the National Honor Society her sophomore year. While in NHS, she helped with Toys for Tots and participated in the Susan G. Komen Cure for Breast Cancer Walk. She also participated in the Cure for Diabetes Walk held in Danforth.

Crone has volunteered for the American Red Cross blood drives and the Good Shepherd’s Food Bank. She was very devoted to the Community Clean-Up Day all four years. Crone was a member of the student council where she was secretary her freshman and sophomore year and class treasurer her junior year.

She has a passion for soccer and played all four years, being named co-captain her senior year. She also played softball her freshman and sophomore years. Crone will attend Kennebec Valley Community College this fall, where she will pursue a career in radiology.

Jones is the son of Tom and Jackie Jones of Weston. He has worked very hard during his career at East Grand. He has been on the honor roll all four years. Jones played soccer for five years and basketball for four years being named co-captain in both sports his junior and senior years. He also played baseball for three years.

Jones has been named vice president of his class this year. He participated in Community Clean-Up Day, the school blood drive and in Maine Youth Leaders. In the fall Joshua will attend Eastern Maine Community College to obtain an associate’s degree in welding.
