CAHS announces honor parts

MARS HILL, Maine — Central Aroostook Junior-Senior High School of Mars Hill has announced the honor parts for the class of 2017.  The valedictorian is Jadeyn Giberson and the salutatorian is Sarah Gerritsen.  The first honor essayist is Megan Wells and the second honor essayist is Erica Watson.  

Giberson is the daughter of Troy and Tammy Giberson of Blaine. She has been a member of the National Honor Society and played varsity soccer, varsity basketball, volleyball and varsity softball.  She has earned academic awards in advanced geometry, U.S. history, Spanish, biology, English, anatomy and pre-calculus. She has earned a letter in varsity soccer and was awarded the most valuable player soccer during her senior season.

Giberson has also been recognized recently as a six-year honoree, which means she has achieved the honor roll at Central Aroostook for 23 consecutive quarters. She has volunteered at the Color Run, Big Rock Mountain Challenge and the Mars Hill Winter Carnival.  Next year she will attend Northern Maine Community College to study nursing.

Sarah Gerritsen

Gerritsen is the daughter of Jim and Megan Gerritsen of Bridgewater. She has participated in National Honor Society, varsity soccer, volleyball and chorus. She has also been part of the CAHS state champion cheerleading squad for the past four years. She has also served as the president of the National Honor Society, class vice president and captain of the varsity soccer team.  She was named the most improved player in soccer as well as defensive player of the year, and was invited to attend the Aroostook League Sports Banquet.

Gerritsen has also been recognized as a six-year honoree for honor roll placement. She has done many community service projects while in high school including Special Olympics, volunteering at the youth triathlon and benefit dinners in Mars Hill. She will attend the University of Maine at Presque Isle to study pre-med biology.

Megan Wells

Megan Wells is the daughter of Renee Wells of Bridgewater. She has participated in varsity soccer, basketball and volleyball.  She has also been involved in math team and was recognized recently as a six-year honoree for making honors grades. She has been recognized for her achievements, earning academic awards in chemistry and Algebra II.

Wells has participated in service to her community by working for Big Brothers, Big Sisters, the Bridgewater Recreation Department, American Legion Post 118, the Mars Hill food pantry, and volunteering at the Mars Hill Full Gospel Assembly. She plans to attend Seton Hall University in the fall to study elementary education.

Erica Watson

Erica Watson is the daughter of Gloria and Dana Watson of Blaine. She has participated in many activities at Central Aroostook, including the math team, varsity softball team, chorus, National Honor Society and the Mars Hill Chapter of Future Farmers of America. Erica has been recognized for her efforts by earning academic achievement awards in math.  She is also currently serving as class president. She was also recognized recently as a six-year honoree for her grades.

Watson has volunteered as a teacher’s aide and office aide. She has also worked at her church teaching children and packing meals for the less fortunate. She plans to attend Northern Maine Community College  to pursue her degree in career studies and nursing.

The class of 2017 will graduate on June 9, 2017, with exercises in the Central Aroostook Junior-Senior High School gymnasium at 7 p.m.
