FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — Gracie Griffith of Fort Fairfield, a senior at Fort Fairfield Middle/High School, was chosen to receive the 2017 Principal’s Award, Principal John Kaleta announced.

The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

“Throughout her six years at Fort Fairfield Middle/High School, Gracie has distinguished herself not only in the classroom but also as a leader on the playing field,” Kaleta said. “Gracie is the type of individual who takes all aspects of her education to heart and is a joy to teach.  Gracie strives to do her best always, so much so that she has completed her high school requirements in just three years.”

Griffith and Kaleta joined other award winners and their principals at an Honors Luncheon at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor in April.

The Honors Luncheon recognized these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler.  McGowan and Tyler were former Maine principals and executive directors of the Association.  This year an additional five $1,000 scholarships were presented through the efforts of the MPA Scholarship Golf Tournament.

The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
