WASHBURN, Maine – Sue Darlene Barnes, 68, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, May 14, 2017, at Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor, with her family by her side.
She was born on May 4, 1949 in Alexandria, VA, the daughter of John and Helen (McAllister) Chinn.
Sue grew up in Pleasant Valley, Virginia, with her older brother and sister, Charles and Gayle, and attended Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, VA. She moved to Maine in 1976, living in Bangor for one year, before moving to Washburn with her three children Rob, Mike, and Christy. She was a shift manager at McDonald’s in Presque Isle and then was the friendly face at the front desk at Portland Glass (formerly Donovan Glass) for several years. In early 2000, she began working at Sitel in Limestone as an insurance representative. Sue began enjoying retired life in 2015.
In 2000, she married the love of her life, Alan Barnes and gained three step-daughters, Angel, Melissa, and Jessica. Sue was often seen in the stands or in a golf cart watching her children and her beloved grandchildren at their various sporting events. She took great pride in all of their success. She enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, and most recently watching the DIY network planning her next home improvement project.
She is survived by her husband, Alan Barnes of Washburn, brother Charles Chinn and wife Joyce of Dayton, OH, sister Gayle Thomas of Vonore, TN, son Rob Flynn and wife Jennifer of Presque Isle, son Michael Flynn and fiancé Jamy Self of Stafford, VA, daughter Christy Bassett and husband Jeff of Manassas, VA, step-daughters Angel Harris and husband Carlos of Gainsville, GA, Melissa Barnes and companion Elkin Torres of Gainsville, and Jessica Barnes and fiancé Juan Puig of Gainsville, brother-in-law John Barnes and wife Lois of Caribou, brother-in-law Dale Barnes and wife Jan of Alabama, brother-in-law Neil Barnes of Presque Isle, and 17 grandchildren – Zachary, Hunter, and Noah Flynn, Emma Bassett, Kayla and Haley Feero, Drake, Pearce, Holden, Bryce, Kadin, Dominik, Cyra, and Riquelle Barnes, Rylie Cote, and Alessandro and Natalia Torres-Barnes.
Sue was predeceased by her parents.
Friends and family called 6 pm to 8 p.m., Monday, May 22, 2017, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, where funeral services were held 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 23, 2017, with Pastor Greg Sponberg, officiating.
