HOULTON, Maine — A 32-year-old Houlton man who was injured Wednesday afternoon when he lost control of his vehicle, causing it to roll over and strike a house, has been charged with driving under the influence.
Houlton Police Chief Tim DeLuca said Thursday morning that Ryan Cottle was summoned on the Class D misdemeanor charge. The chief, however, would not provide further details, such as what substance allegedly was involved.
Cottle was travelling north on outer Court Street Wednesday when he lost control of the black Hyundai Sonata he was driving at about 2 p.m. The vehicle flipped onto its roof and came to a stop after striking a house at 117 Court St.
Cottle had to be removed from the vehicle with assistance from members of the Houlton fire and ambulance departments. He was taken to Houlton Regional Hospital where he was treated for unspecified injuries and released. Police issued the summons to Cottle while he was at the hospital Wednesday, the chief said.
Cottle is scheduled to appear in court on July 3.
The home, which is owned by Vanessa Ngo, received some damage to the exterior. Chief DeLuca did not have an estimate on how much damage was caused to the home.
