CARIBOU, Maine — The home team was the dominant one at the Aroostook League middle school track and field championships.
The Viking girls and boys captured both overall titles in the meet held Wednesday, May 24, at Caribou High School.
The Caribou girls scored 160 points to defeat runner-up Valley Rivers Middle School of Fort Kent (91) and four other schools.
The Viking boys totaled 159 points, beating out Presque Isle, which posted 129, and five other schools.
In the girls’ meet, first-place winners for Caribou were Rylee Saucier in the shot put (25 feet, 8 inches) and the discus (64 feet, 3 inches); Annalise Jandreau in the 1,600-meter run (6:09.61) and the 800-meter run (2:47.63); and the 4×200-meter relay team of Lauren Craig, Cailyn Kohoupt, Kallee Parent and Marienna St. Peter (2:14.84).
Other individual winners were Annika Reynolds of Fort Fairfield in the long jump (14 feet, 1 inch), the 100-meter dash (14.31 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (29.98 seconds); Lacy Pelletier of Valley Rivers in the high jump (4 feet, 4 inches) and the 400-meter dash (1:09.03); and Lindsey Himes of Presque Isle in the 100-meter hurdles (19.79 seconds).
The Valley Rivers 4×100-meter relay team of Mya Eno, Nancy Martin, Lacy Pelletier and Gabby Martin prevailed in 1:00.19.
For the boys, taking first-place for the victorious Vikings were P.J. Thornton in the shot put (34 feet, 9 inches) and the discus (107 feet, 5 inches); Dan Uchendu in the 100-meter dash (12.6 seconds) and the 400-meter dash (58.16 seconds); and Darian Hartley in the high jump (5 feet, 4 inches). In addition, the team of Angel Riopelle, Dakota Yakel, Caleb Robbins and Colin Poitras captured both the 4×200-meter relay (1:58.39) and the 4×100-meter relay (55.69 seconds).
Also taking titles were Ben Ryan of Presque Isle in the 100-meter hurdles (15.78 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (26.74 seconds); Hudson Labbe of Valley Rivers in the long jump (16 feet, 5 inches); and Mason Fletcher of Presque Isle in the 1,600-meter run (5:21.38) and the 800-meter run (2:28.24).
Union 122, Washburn and Wisdom were other schools competing.
Annika Reynolds won the girls’ individual title with 38 points, while Ben Ryan and Dan Uchendu split the boys’ title with 36 each.
The overall top 10 for girls was made up of Reynolds, Saucier (30), Pelletier (28.5), Gabby Martin (26.5), Jandreau (26), Kearstin Coty of Caribou (17), Salena Savage of Caribou (15), St. Peter (14.5), Kacie Haney of Caribou (14) and Alyssa Addington of Presque Isle (13.5).
The boys’ top 10 included Ryan, Uchendu, Hartley (28), Labbe (26), Fletcher (24), Thornton (20), Yakel (19), Carter Belanger of Caribou (18), Noah Roy of Presque Isle (16) and Conner Michaud of Presque Isle (15).
