HODGDON, Maine — The Hodgdon National Honor Society inducted seven new members Tuesday, May 16, following a dinner banquet at the school.
At the ceremony, students marched into a darkened gymnasium carrying candles and proceeded onto the stage.
“This has been a fantastic group to work with,” NHS Advisor Kara Wright said of this year’s members and the seniors who are graduating. “They have excellent leadership and have gotten a lot of things done that they had planned, and even some they did not plan on. I am up here trying not to cry because I am going to miss them so much.”
Newly inducted members were Jace DeWitt, Melanie Griffin, Rebecca Griffin, Sydney Howell, Hannah Elland, Victoria Morris and Addison Woods.
This group joins current members Jordyn Merritt (president), Jessica Drew (vice president), Tabetha Ganzel (secretary), Sarah McGillicuddy (treasurer), Wyatt Foster, Nicholas Sherman, Megan L. Russell, Hailey Heath, Jill Gough, Taylor Desrosiers, Madisyn Merritt, Janelle Goff, Robert Ramsey, Dylan Oliver, Jordyn McKissick and Sydney Crane.
Elected to fill the positions being vacated by graduating seniors were: Madisyn Merritt, president; Sidney Crane, vice president; Jordyn McKissick, secretary; and Megan L. Russell, treasurer.
“The installation of officers is an important and serious occasion,” Wright said. “You have indicated your faith and trust in these elected officers to serve for the coming year. Their service and accomplishments depend largely on your cooperation. In any organization, there comes a time when some must lead for a while and the others must follow.”
Following the ceremony, Principal Mary Harbison presented academic awards to students in grades 7-12. Seniors receiving were: first-year honor letters: Mercedez Brown, Melanie Griffin, Rebecca Griffin, Noah Nash and Kyle Tidd; first-year pins, Danny Gillotti, Leigha Jurson and Daden Palmer; second-year pin, Kameron Barton, Taylor Desrosiers, Sarah McGillicuddy and Elizabeth Neher; and third-year pins, Jace Dewitt, Jessica Drew, Tabetha Ganzel, Jill Gough, Kevin McAfee and Jordyn Merritt.
Juniors receiving first-year pins were: Ashley Little, Megan L. Russell and Addie Woods; and second-year pins went to Joel Bond, Sydney Crane, Hannah Elland, Wyatt Foster, Janelle Goff, Hailey Heath, Macenzie Hipsley, Sydney Howell, Sarah Hutchinson, Jordyn McKissick, Madisyn Merritt, Dylan Oliver, Robert Ramsey, Kathryn Rediker and Nick Sherman.
Sophomores receiving first-year honor letters were: Sylar DeHahn, Kora Lambert, Katherine Ledger and Emma Nash, while those receiving first-year pins were: Dylan Jurson, Victoria Morris, and Autumn Pierlioni.
Freshmen receiving first-year letters were: Katherine Berube, Bryon Barton, William Belyea, Ethan Carter, Joshua Foster, Autumn Ganzel, Heather Losinger, Grace Malone, Lauren McGillicuddy, Olivia Morris, Lucas Ramsey, Hunter Tapley, Seth Tapley and Benjamin Walker.
Eighth-graders receiving honor awards were: Jade Akins, Codie Barton, Breea Carll, Emma Drew, Colton Folsom, Jeremiah Goff, Brittany Hagan, Mikyla Howland, Emalie Jones, Serena Lufkin, Isaac Jurson, Abigail McAtee, Natalee McNally, Erin Peters, Sabra Scott, Mallory Williams, Allison Winship, Aidynn Woods, Kylee Mooers, Hannah North, Bridget Spellman, Serrinna Saunders and Karlee Brisley.
