PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Probus Club held their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Northern Maine Community College’s Reed Commons.
Club president Tom Lunn called the meeting to order at 10 a.m. Dana Crory, the program chairman, introduced the guest speaker, Natalia Bragg, internationally acclaimed herbalist/intuitive healer. She is an organic farmer, an environmentalist, a cultural historian, a shaman/elder and a Reiki healer.
Bragg’s knowledge is based on six generations of medicine in her extended family. The practice and protection of natural healing formulas have remained in her family for many, many years.
This practice was started in the 17th century as soups and spirits for the kings and queens of England. From its origins there, the Randall family since 1859 have carried on the practice of natural medicines. Herbal/intuitive healers used their special skills and knowledge to treat their patients.
Bragg said many chemical imbalances in the body are often due to commercial medicines used today. Many of the herbal/intuitive treatments are based on personality, hair color and body structures based on information from 50 of her teacher elders. She said Aroostook County has an abundance of plants that aid in herbal treatments.
She stated that there are four planks of ensuring good health. These are: vitamin D3, selenium (a mineral), the vitamin B complexes and garlic oil. Sometimes many of today’s medicines interfere with the absorption of the B complexes. Vitamin D3 affects 20 percent of the immune system and selenium accounts for 30 percent of the immune system.
Janet Snow gave her monthly meeting reading today on use of one word that should be avoided — “but” — which discounts all previous remarks. Rather. the word “and” should be used as it contributes to the praise of previous remarks. The article was written by Linda O’Connell.
The Probus Club members voted to give two scholarships with the $1,500 funds available for students planning to attend NMCC in Presque Isle.
Those who are interested in learning more about the community businesses and the leaders in Presque Isle are welcome to attend the Probus meetings, which are held on the third Thursday of every month at the NMCC college campus in Presque Isle.
