Katahdin reveals top students

STACYVILLE, Maine — Katahdin High School Principal Marie Robinson announced Thursday the honor parts for the Class of 2017.

Emily Knowles will be valedictorian, while Erin Buhler is salutatorian.

Knowles is the daughter of Phil and Sue Knowles of Sherman. She plans to attend University of Maine in Orono and pursue a degree in mechanical engineering. She is a member of the National Honor Society and served as Secretary for NHS this year.

She was a member of the Youth Advocacy Group and was sophomore and junior vice president of her class. Knowles has participated in varsity soccer and was manager for varsity basketball and baseball. She attended Dirigo Girls’ State her junior year. Emily has volunteered for the Special Olympics and Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership.

She has received the President’s Volunteer Service Award and the HOBY Volunteer Recognition Award. She is also the MPA Principal’s Award recipient.

Buhler is the daughter of Bryan and Julie Buhler of Patten. She plans to attend Husson University in Bangor and pursue a degree in Environmental Science. Buhler is a member of the National Honor Society, Youth Advocacy Group and Student Council. She was the baseball manager her sophomore, junior, and senior years. She volunteered for Vacation Bible School, American Red Cross Blood Drive, Career and Health Fair, Random Acts of Kindness, and Special Olympics, planted flowers for the town of Patten, and served at Alumni Dinner.

The following students were also announced as honor students for the Class of 2016. The students are listed in alphabetical order.

Ashley Cullins is the daughter of Charles and Billie Jo Cullins. She plans to attend the University of Maine in Farmington and pursue a degree in psychology. Cullins is a member of the National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, Youth Advocacy Group, and Talent Search (TRIO). She was the manager for varsity basketball, softball and girls’ soccer teams. Cullins also participated in the Performing Arts Club of Katahdin (PACK). She was the President of the Katahdin High School Art Club. Ashlie volunteered for the Boy Scout Troop 205, Sherman Craft Fair, Walk for Life, Red Cross Blood Drives and the Patten Pentecostal Church Choir.

Rylee Fitzpatrick is the daughter of Joel and Jona Fitzpatrick of Patten. She plans to attend the University of Maine in Orono and pursue a degree in wildlife biology/zoology. Fitzpatrick is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, President of Student Council, Yearbook Staff Committee, Performing Arts Club of Katahdin (PACK), and Youth Advocacy Group. She has volunteered at the Red Cross Blood Drives, breakfast for seniors, Special Olympics, clothing drive at KMHS and also snacks for the elementary students.

Georgia Landry is the daughter of Paul and Nicole Landry of Patten. She plans to attend the University of Maine at Fort Kent and pursue a degree in nursing. Landry is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Yearbook Staff Committee, Youth Advocacy, and Performing Arts Club of Katahdin (PACK). She has participated in varsity soccer, basketball, softball, and volleyball. Landry was chosen for All-Aroostook Soccer and Maine Regional Coaches Choice All-Star Soccer. In basketball she was chosen for All-Aroostook, PVC Honorable Mention, PVC All-Star and Maine McDonald’s All-Star. In softball she was chosen for All-Aroostook and PVC First Class. Georgia also has participated in the Houlton School of Dance. She has volunteered at Red Cross Blood Drives, breakfast for seniors, and Special Olympics.

Devin McGraw is the son of Kevin and Melissa McGraw of Patten. He plans to attend Beal College in Bangor and pursue a degree in law enforcement. McGraw has participated in varsity baseball, basketball, volleyball and soccer from and was captain of the soccer and basketball teams. McGraw is a member of the Student Council, Class Vice President, and Youth Advocacy Group. He volunteered as the school mascot, at American Red Cross Blood Drives, Patten Pioneer Days, Patten Rec. Dept., and at the elementary school.

Kendra Patterson is the daughter of Jerald and Andrea Patterson of Stacyville. She plans to attend the University of Maine at Augusta and pursue a degree in veterinary technology. Patterson is a member of the National Honor, Student Council, Prom Committee, and Youth Advocacy Group. She is Class President and the Yearbook Editor. She volunteered at the Red Cross Blood Drives, breakfast for seniors, Special Olympics, planted flowers clothing drive at KMHS and also snacks for the elementary students.

Erin Robinson is the daughter of Harold and Anna Robinson of Sherman. She plans to attend St. Joseph’s College and pursue a degree in journalism/creative writing. Robinson is a member of the Yearbook Committee. She is the Class Secretary. Robinson participated and was Captain on the Varsity Soccer Team. She volunteered at St. Benedict’s Parish organizing fundraisers for the senior citizens and the homeless, baking and gathering food for the people in need, and teaching children in Vacation Bible School.
