PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — While summer is a time of fun and relaxation, it is also a time that an estimated 43 million youth nationwide experience a lack of nutrition and summer learning loss.
To help provide meaningful opportunities for youth throughout the summer, the Boys & Girls Club of Presque Isle is recruiting summer associates as part of the Boys & Girls Clubs in Indian Country AmeriCorps VISTA Project. The associate program is an intensive eight-week service opportunity at a Native Boys & Girls Club.
Summer Associates will be part of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s (BGCA) mission to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens. Boys & Girls Clubs in Indian Country (BGCIC) provide a place where Native youth can celebrate their culture and community, enjoy healthy fun with peers and learn skills and self-confidence under the guidance of responsible adults.
Summer Associates will serve for eight weeks on a full-time basis. This will include a monthly living allowance and the choice of either a $1,230 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or an end-of-service summer stipend. The opportunity involves direct service activities with youth and opportunity to work in a diverse setting while furthering knowledge about Native cultures.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age by Sunday, June 11, and able to pass a fingerprint/criminal history check.
