HOULTON, Maine — Greater Houlton Christian Academy (GHCA) surprised Greater Houlton Gospel Music Group organizers Wayne Watson and Peter Holmes at The Collingsworth Family Concert on Thursday, May 25, at the Houlton Community Arts Center.

“Since the mid-1990s, Wayne and Peter have been bringing popular gospel music artists to the local area,” said Matt Nightingale, GHCA board chairman. “We really want to express our appreciation for the work they put into these events. Not only have these events raised over $80,000 for GHCA, they support the local economy, bringing people from all over the state and Canada who visit our great town of Houlton.”

For several years many concerts have been sold out. “It takes a lot of hard work and effort to bring well-known artists to Houlton,” said Steve Bither, GHCA vice chairman. “We often hear from the artists how appreciative they are of our hospitality and the attention to detail that Wayne and Peter provide. That word gets around in the industry and helps attract other artists.”

Nightingale and Bither presented the award plaques to the unsuspecting duo during The Collingsworth Concert intermission. They are already hard at work promoting the next concert, Michael English with the Nelon Family and Jeff Stice, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Houlton Community Arts Center. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at the GHCA office by calling 532-0736.
