Relay for Life gives survivors the first lap

CARIBOU, Maine — Aroostook Relay for Life will honor anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer and their caregivers at their annual Survivor Lap and Survivor Dinner on Friday, June 16.

Local cancer survivors and their caregivers will take the celebratory first lap at the annual Relay For Life event at 6 p.m. at Caribou High School.

Survivors receive a T-shirt and medal with their registration and will have the opportunity to introduce themselves at the event.  As the survivors walk, other participants will cheer them on in a demonstration of support and celebration. Immediately following the Survivor lap, survivors and their caregivers are invited to attend the survivors’ reception at no cost, sponsored by Cary Medical Center.

More than 20 Relay for Life teams will be at the event, selling food, merchandise and raffle items.  The No Pressure band will also be playing from 8 to 10 p.m., followed immediately by the luminary ceremony. A DJ and a variety of games and other activities will also take place throughout the evening.

The Aroostook Relay for Life is a community event where teams and individuals come together to honor, celebrate and raise funds and awareness in an effort to free the world from the pain and suffering of cancer. Money raised will help the American Cancer Society provide free information, programming and support for people both locally and nationwide that are facing the disease today, and fund cancer research that will help protect future generations.
