McCrum recounts FFA presidency

The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Tuesday morning, June 6, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center.  The guest speaker was Dayna McCrum, a recent graduate of Central Aroostook High School.  

She spoke about her time as state FFA president.  She attended many leadership seminars and conferences during her term.  She has worked on service projects such as food packages in D.C. and tree planting in Kentucky. She has also helped in animal shelters.

She said she is very grateful for the leadership qualities that she has learned through FFA.  McCrum will attend Husson College in the fall for business administration.  She then plans on attending Texas A&M.

Bean Supper

St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mars Hill will hold a baked bean supper on Friday, June 16, from 4:30 to 7 p.m.  

The menu will include beans, hot dogs, rolls, salads, desserts, coffee tea and punch.  Cost will be $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12.

Bottle Drive

The CAHS Spanish Club is raising funds for a trip to Ecuador.  They will hold a bottle drive on Saturday, June 17.  There will be three teams heading out around 10 that morning to collect bottles in Mars Hill, Blaine and Bridgewater.

Homecoming 2017

Homecoming 2017 will take place this year from August 10-13.  For those intending to be part of the parade, please sign up ahead of time to help with planning.  Those who sign up after Aug. 6 will be charged $25.  Sign-up sheets can be picked up at the Mars Hill Town Office or by going to our website: www.homecomingdays.org.  

We are also looking for vendors of both food and crafts for Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Please contact Kathy at 425-3771 for more information or to sign up for a space.

Library Evening Hours

The Walter T. A. Hansen Memorial Library will continue their extended night hours. The library will be open from 12:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  

Aroostook Health Center

Upcoming events for the week of June 14 – 20 include: Wednesday will feature Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Fun with Jess & Devin at 9:30 a.m., Karaoke with Larry and Larry at 1:30 p.m. and Mars Hill United Baptist at 6:30 p.m.  Thursday will feature Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and Horse Racing at 1:30 p.m.  Friday will feature Game Time at 9:30 a.m. and Father’s Day Luncheon at 11:30 a.m.   Saturday will feature Karaoke with The Deschesnes at 1:30 p.m.  Sunday is Father’s Day and will have televised church available in the day room.  Monday will feature Nails by Shallie and Melissa at 9:30 a.m. and Communion with Pastor Blakney at 1:30 p.m.  Tuesday will feature the Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and Card Games at 1:30 p.m.

BINGO

The William Cousins Post 118 of Mars Hill is hosting BINGO on Saturday evening beginning at 7 p.m. at the Post. There are cash prizes. Refreshments are available. Come on out and enjoy a fun evening with friends.
