HOULTON, Maine — Nancy Britton has cashed her final check at the Bangor Savings Bank, ending a 41-year-career as a bank teller.
Britton’s final day with the bank was May 26 and featured appearances by many current and former customers.
In May of 1976, Britton started her career at Houlton Savings Bank working at their only branch which was tucked in the corner of downtown Houlton. In 1981, Houlton Savings was acquired by Bangor Savings Bank making this the bank’s 12th branch.
Britton leaves behind many loyal customers who would wait in her line so they can fill her in on new things happening in their lives. Her colleagues have always relied on her to keep the rest of the team “in the know”.
She has been the official taste tester of the Houlton branch being the first one to try food brought in by customers or co-workers, making sure it is safe for the rest of us to eat. Over the years, she has developed many friendships with her co-workers, current and past, as well as customers and will be greatly missed.
Britton plans on spending her first summer of retirement just relaxing in the sun and enjoying time with her family. She lives in Houlton with her husband, Rod and grandson Kye. She has 2 children, Chris and Katie and a second grandson Kip.
