LITTLETON, Maine — The Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum in Littleton will host the first meeting of the Aroostook Retired Educators Association (AREA) on June 27.
The program will feature a special music presentation by Hope Chernesky, winner of Northern Star. To show appreciation to Hope, donations to the United Way will be accepted. Registration will be at 11 a.m. and a turkey dinner complete with homemade pies will be served at noon. The cost of the meal is $15.
Once again AREA will continue to collect canned goods and nonperishable items to be distributed to local food pantries. Also AREA will be participating in this year’s annual “Day of Caring” to be held in September.
Each county affiliate plans a special project to benefit the students in that county. This year AREA continues the “Bulging Backpack,” project which involves filling a backpack with school supplies and donating it to an area school. One school from the central region of Aroostook County will be the recipient of this year’s project. Donations for both projects may be brought to the summer meetings.
Membership dues are $7 and all retired educators are encouraged to join. Stay connected with students, share valuable information, renew friendships, and be supportive of current educators.
