Summer baseball league begins

The Northern Maine Community Recreation Association’s 13-15 year-old baseball league has a new look this summer.

After having separate leagues in the north and the south for many years, the leagues have now combined to form one 10-team league. Each team will play everybody once, with the six teams owning the best records qualifying for the playoffs, which begin July 17.

The league includes two teams from Grand Falls, New Brunswick, and two from Edmundston, New Brunswick, as well as single teams representing Caribou, Fort Fairfield, Mapleton, Presque Isle, Union 122 (comprised of Woodland, Stockholm and New Sweden) and Van Buren.

The championship game will be played in Presque Isle July 24.

League play began June 19 and continues through July 14. Games are held weekday afternoons and evenings and will be played in Caribou, Presque Isle, New Sweden, Grand Falls and Edmundston. Saturdays will be used as make-up days.
