ASHLAND, Maine — Acadia Federal Credit Union, a member-owned financial institution with branches throughout the St. John Valley and Ashland, recently disbursed over $26,000 from their 2016 Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger. The Ashland Food Pantry was among local food pantries and food assistance programs to benefit from Acadia FCU’s fundraising efforts.
Nearly all of Maine’s credit unions participate in the Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger each year. In 2016, Acadia FCU placed #5 in the state for money raised, surpassing their previous fundraising record. The 2016 total raised was $26,140.80 and 100% of that money was distributed throughout the St. John Valley and Ashland.
Representatives on behalf of First Assembly of God Food Pantry, St. John Vianney Parish Food Pantry, Aroostook Area Agency on Aging / Meals on Wheels program, Greater Fort Kent Ecumenical Food Pantry, and Notre Dame du Mont Carmel Food Pantry received checks at Acadia FCU’s annual meeting, held on June 11 in Fort Kent, while representatives from Our Lady of the Valley and Ashland Food Pantry received checks off-site, a few days earlier.
“We are thrilled to be able to impact the community in this way,” said David Desjardins, President / CEO of Acadia FCU. “To be able to publicly distribute over $26,000 to our local food pantries was just awesome! We are fortunate to have so many generous members and hard-working staff who come together to raise money for this important cause.”
Acadia FCU presented Polly Libby of the Ashland Food Pantry with a check for $1,000. Fundraising for the 2017 Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger is well underway.
