MAPLETON, Maine — With a weekend that started wet but ended in bountiful sun, the Maple Meadow Farm Fest helped northern Maine welcome and celebrate the start of summer.
“We think it went well,” said Andrea Gregg, who has been organizing the festival at the Gregg’s family Mapleton farmstead for 10 years.
Gregg estimates that as many as 3,000 people visit the free, two-day festival each year, although they do not keep exact figures.
This year’s weather started out wet but turned around and proved to be great on Sunday.
“We know our attendance was down Saturday, and we think that had to do with the rain in the morning,” Gregg said. “Sunday was beautiful and busy the entire day.”
This year’s fest featured a mix of activities, including draft horse games and rides, 4-H livestock displays, scything demonstrations, an art competition, folk music and, of course, food.
“The art battle was a great success,” Gregg said of the painting competition held Saturday. “We had good attendance for that event. People asked if we would do another on Sunday.”
