WOODLAND, Maine — Deputies charged a local man with criminal threatening with a weapon and reckless conduct on July 4 after he was accused of threatening another man with a gun.
Sgt. Matthew Cummings and Deputy Reid Clark of the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jonathan Monahan, 56, of Woodland on Tuesday morning after taking away the weapon and determining that it was a BB gun, according to a release issued by Sheriff Darrell Crandall.
Crandall said the incident occurred at Monahan’s home just one day after Monahan had been released on bail from the Aroostook County Jail on charges connected to a theft in Perham. Monahan previously was arrested on May 16 in Perham when he and his daughter, Ashley Monahan, 33, each were charged with theft and criminal trespass for an alleged burglary at an Ericson Road residence. Following a brief police chase in that earlier case, she also was charged with failure to submit to arrest and he was charged with operating an unregistered motor vehicle, the sheriff said.
In the most recent case, Crandall wrote that the victim believed Monahan was using a 9MM pistol instead of a BB gun. The man told police that he was staying with Monahan and was responsible for posting Monahan’s bail on the previous charges.
Monahan, who also was charged with violating bail, currently is being held in the county jail where he will await a trial, Crandall reported.
