Two people escaped injury in a crash that killed a moose in Woodland Monday evening, according to the Maine State Police.
Fay Douglas, 31 of Woodland, and her passenger were travelling on Woodland Center Road in a 2004 Chevy SUV shortly before 9 p.m. Monday night when the vehicle collided with a moose that entered the roadway.
Douglas was “not able to avoid the animal” and struck it, killing the animal and damaging the vehicle, according to Trooper Nathan Desrosier.
Neither of the vehicle’s occupants were injured, Desrosier said. They were wearing seatbelts and speed was not a factor, he said.
The vehicle was heavily damaged and was towed from the scene.
