PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Marie Theresa Flewelling, 86, passed away Saturday evening, July 8, 2017, at Presque Isle Rehab Nursing Center. She was born on June 28, 1931, in Newton, MA, the eldest daughter of Armand and Susan (Sallese) Iodice of Watertown, MA.
Marie was a devoted wife, mother, sister and daughter, as well as a dedicated nurse. She graduated St. Patrick’s Catholic School, Watertown, MA, then served in the Air Force from 1953 to 1956. She graduated from Somerville Hospital School of Nursing, Somerville, MA in 1958. Her career as a Registered Nurse began at Massachusetts General Hospital and Boston City Hospital, both in Boston, MA. She joined The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle, ME after marrying Robert.
Marie enjoyed travelling the country, gardening and community organizations. She was a member of Presque Isle Garden Club, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, American Legion Post 88 and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Later in life she volunteered for Aroostook Area on Aging.
Marie is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert Flewelling of Presque Isle; her son, Greg Flewelling of Presque Isle; son, John Flewelling and his wife, Jennifer of Sanford; John’s children, Jacob and Olivia Flewelling of Buxton; and sister, Ann Hoskins of North Adams, MA.
In addition to her parents, Marie was predeceased by her sister, Linda Roach of North Adams, MA; and her brother, Arnold of Arizona.
Visitation for friends and family will be at 12 noon, Friday, July 14, 2017, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St. Presque Isle, where a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou.
