CYR PLANTATION, Maine — Distracted driving contributed to a July 15 crash in which a 2000 Cadillac Escalade rolled over several times, landing on the driver side and trapping the lone occupant inside.
Police say Wayne Bouley, 42, of Madawaska became “distracted by activity inside his vehicle,” failing to see Brian Violette, 49, of Van Buren slow down in front of him. Bouley’s 2015 Chevrolet Silverado collided with Violette’s Escalade, causing it to roll over several times and trapping him inside until he was rescued by Van Buren Fire Department.
Violette was driving alone while Bouley had two adults and two children in his vehicle, according to the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office. All were transported to Cary Medical Center in Caribou with non-life threatening injuries.
Deputy Sheriff Chad Foley arrived at the scene “within just a few minutes” of the 10:00 a.m. call, and police say “U.S. Route 1 was closed for a period of time” after his arrival.
None involved sustained life threatening injuries, however both vehicles received serious damage.
