FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — The Maine Potato Blossom Festival 5-Miler offers one of the most challenging courses on the Aroostook County road racing scene, and Patrick Cote and Tracy Guerrette conquered it en route to victories Saturday, July 15.
The 32-year-old Cote, who is from Grand Falls, New Brunswick, and now resides in Calgary, Alberta, captured overall honors with a time of 28 minutes and 2 seconds. He was 1:18 ahead of runner-up Sam Sheehan of Brooklyn, New York, who is a former Caribou High School running standout. Evan Desmond of Caribou was third in 30:32.
Guerrette, 36, was impressive in winning the women’s division and placing fourth overall in the field of 64 runners. She finished in 30:41. Placing second for females was Marie Beckum of Caribou, whose time of 36:56 was good for 15th place.
Landen Leavitt of Fort Fairfield was the fastest walker, turning in a time of 1:04:39. Amanda Doherty of Scarborough was the first female to complete the course, doing so in 1:05:41.
Claiming the fifth through 10th positions in the running race were former CHS runner Bryan Lamoreau (31:49), UMPI athlete Connor Hrynuk (33:23), Bruce Clark of Houlton (33:56), Trace Cyr of Presque Isle (34:18), Thomas Beckum of Caribou (34:28) and Jeff Dubis of Fort Kent (34:38).
Age division winners were: 14-and-under male, Henry McDevitt; 14-and-under female, Sophia Dean; 15-18 male, Desmond; 15-18 female, Teagan Ewings; 19-29 male, Sheehan; 19-29 female, Jaylee Fox; 30-39 male, Emerson Wright; 30-39 female, Marie Beckum; 40-49 male, Thomas Beckum; 40-49 female, Angela Ewings; 50-59 male, Clark; 50-59 female, Anna Bernard; 60-69 male, Ed Malone; 60-69 female, Connie McLellan; and 70-and over male, Bruce Alexander.
