FORT MYERS, FL – Judith Lynn Hallowell, cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away from stroke complications on February 21, 2017 in Ft. Myers, Florida, at the age of 75.
Judith was born in Caribou, Maine, to Richard and Barbara Hallowell on October 23, 1941 and grew up there. In 1959 she graduated from Caribou High School and went on Boston to attend nursing school. She married in September of 1960 and moved to Khartoum, Sudan where she had two sons before returning to the United States to raise her family in the New York City area.
The marriage end with divorce in November of 1981, and Judith returned to school to pursue her love of design; earning a Bachelor of Design Degree from the University of Florida in 1986 and Master’s Degree in Architecture from the University of Texas in 1992. Judith practiced in both New Jersey and Florida, holding positions at a number of architecture firms and eventually settling in the Seven Lakes community where she spent her retirement. She had a passion for bridge, earning Silver Life Master status, and enjoyed many good times with her friends in the American Contract Bridge League and the “9 Holers” at Seven Lakes.
Judith was devoted to her five grandchildren and a central figure in all their lives, leaving them with lasting memories of summers in Maine, cribbage and driving her golf cart at Seven Lakes. She will be remembered for her compassion, competitive spirit and sense of adventure.
Judith is survived by her sons, James and Chaz; her grandchildren; Jessica, Ellie, Dana, Annie and Charlie; and her siblings Sarah, Richard, Dana and John. She was predeceased by her parents and beloved Aunt Betty.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial in celebration of her life on Friday, July 21st 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Hampton Inn, 768 Main St., Presque Isle, ME 04769.
