LIMESTONE and LONG LAKE, Maine — More than $3,500 was raised at the annual Charity Challenge golf tournament, which was held July 15 at Limestone Country Club and July 16 at Long Lake Country Club.
Aroostook County Special Olympics is the charity that benefits from tourney proceeds.
Outside of a brief weather delay on the second day, golfers were treated to excellent playing conditions throughout the weekend, according to tourney director Rene Cloukey.
The foursome of Guy Cyr, Doug Collin, Roger Beaulieu and Al Hebert won gross titles in both the morning and afternoon rounds. They shot a 4-under-par 32 in the morning before firing a 5-under-par 31 in the afternoon.
On the net side, Derek Sczuroski, Tim Sczuroski, Leland Paradis and Dana Caron grabbed top honors in the morning tournament with a 27.5. Saturday afternoon’s net title went to Erik Johnson, Mike McNulty, Herb Williamson, Kelley Fitzpatrick and Rene Cloukey of Presque Isle. Their score was 28.5.
During Sunday’s play, Paul Brideau, Charlie Albert, Norm Doucette and Don Michaud shot a 30 to take morning gross honors at Long Lake.
Achieving low gross in the afternoon were Cyr, Collin, Beaulieu and Mike Rioux. They shot a 7-under 28 and won in a tiebreaker.
Net winners in the morning, with a score of 26, were Rick Pelletier, Brady Pelletier, Jacob Harvey and Drew Harvey. Gerry Bosse, Phil Martin, Roland Bourgoin and Bob Michaud had the low net score (27.5) in the afternoon.
