Rotary leader shares international goals

The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Tuesday morning, July 18, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center.  The guest speaker was 2017-2018 District Governor Iris Sullivan of Miramichi, New Brunswick.

Sullivan spoke of how the district is an international one, with clubs located in both Canada and the United States, with volunteers who make sacrifices to better the community and the world.

Her message was: We can do more together than alone and need to be united in our goals through teamwork and cooperation.

She showed a presentation from International President Ian Riseley, who challenges each Rotarian to plant a tree this year.

Tag sale is coming

Friends and staff of the Walter T.A. Hansen Memorial Library are making plans for their annual tag sale fundraiser, to be held this month and in August. Specific days will be announced.

If you have items to donate, please contact the library at 429-9625 to arrange to either drop them off or have them picked up. Volunteers are needed to help set up and run the sale.

The library will be doing a Bikes for Books event until Aug. 12.  There are three grade categories: pre-K-K, grades 1-2 and grades 3-6 (the grade attended in the school year just over).

Kids are invited to read books over the summer to have their names put into the appropriate bucket.  There will be two winners in each category.  Thanks go to the Aroostook Lodge 197 for donating the bikes.

Regular library happening include Toddler Time on Tuesdays at 10, as well as Craft Club on Mondays, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Bring your favorite cross-stitch piece, knitting, crocheting or other craft to work on in the company of others.

The library’s extended hours are 12:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
