HODGDON, Maine — A small, but determined group of alumni from Hodgdon Middle-High School are working to organize an inaugural “All School Alumni Event” on Saturday, Aug. 19.
“The goal of the group is to establish an organization of Hodgdon High School Alumni so they can celebrate their heritage of 90 years as a high school and support the current Hodgdon Middle/High School programs,” said Superintendent Scott Richardson.
The alumni event will feature tours of both buildings, memorabilia, food and fun. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hodgdon Middle/High School. It will feature a potluck and barbeque at noon. Alumni and their spouses are asked to bring a salad or dessert, and hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided.
Hodgdon High School was established in 1927 and the first graduating class was the Class of 1929. The present high school building was built in 1937 at a cost of $102,000. A gymnasium and elevator were added in the mid-1970’s and a large addition was done in 1986-1987.
Over the years there have been many changes to the original building. Over the last two summers, projects have brought the building into compliance with ADA regulations and made it safer and more efficient.
SAD 70 was established in September 1968 when Amity, Cary, Hodgdon and Hayneville joined together. They were joined by Linneus, Ludlow and New Limerick in December 1973. The Mill Pond School for PK-8 was built to consolidate all those towns into one school in the early 1970s. Originally, it was named the SAD 70 Elementary School to emphasize that union of seven towns. Mill Pond School also experienced an addition and major renovations in 1986-1987.
For more information, or to volunteer to assist, go to the Hodgdon High School Alumni Facebook page or e-mail suzettebelyea@msad70.org. An event page for Aug. 19 is available for those to indicate if they will attend, which serve as a count to help with preparations. Volunteers are gladly accepted.
