The first student day for SAD 42 schools will be Wednesday, Aug. 16, according to Superintendent of Schools Elaine Boulier. New teacher orientation will be Friday, Aug. 11, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon at the superintendent’s office.
Opening sessions for all staff (teachers, ed techs, secretaries, cooks, bus drivers and custodians) will be Monday, Aug. 14, and Tuesday, Aug. 15, at 8 a.m in the music room at Central Aroostook Junior/Senior High School. Agendas will be provided at the beginning of each session. Lunch will be on your own.
The regular bus driver meeting will be held Monday at 10 a.m at the superintendent’s office.
New students may register for grades 7-12 at CAJHS, 26 Pleasant St., Aug. 9-15 from 8 a.m to 3 p.m. in the guidance office. Parents wishing to register students in grades pre-K through 6 may do so at Fort Street Elementary School, 38 Fort St., Aug. 9-15 from 8 a.m to 3 p.m. Bring birth certificate and immunization record.
The bus schedule will remain the same as last year.
Hot lunches will be available beginning the first day of school at a price of $2.10 at the elementary school and $2.35 at CAJHS. Reduced-price meals are 40 cents for all qualifying students at both schools. Breakfast is offered at both schools for $1.15 or free for qualifying students.
Applications must be approved prior to receiving free or reduced meals. Only one meal application PER FAMILY is required.) Those in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten must also fill out a milk application. There will be no charging of school lunches or breakfast.

Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Tuesday morning, July 25, at the Aroostook Health Center. The guest speaker was Paul Howlett of the Northern Maine Lighthouse.
Howlett spoke about the growth of the organization from one residential facility in Mars Hill in 2001 to having five offices and employing over 100 staff. The nonprofit organization provides a wide variety of mental health services.
Tag sale is coming
Friends and staff of the Walter T.A. Hansen Memorial Library are making plans for their annual tag sale fundraiser. Specific days will be announced.
To donate items, contact the library at 429-9625 to arrange to either drop them off or have them picked up. Volunteers are needed to help set up and run the sale.
Bikes for Books is ongoing until Aug. 12. There are three grade categories: pre-K-K, grades 1-2 and grades 3-6. Kids may read books over the summer to win a bike; there will be two winners in each category. Thanks go to the Aroostook Lodge 197 for donating the bikes.
Regular library happening include Toddler Time on Tuesdays at 10, as well as Craft Club on Mondays, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Bring your favorite cross-stitch piece, knitting, crocheting or other craft to work on in the company of others.
The library’s extended hours are 12:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Homecoming 2017
Homecoming 2017 will be Aug. 10-13. To be part of the parade, sign up ahead of time to help with planning. Those who sign up after Aug. 6 will be charged $25. Sign-up sheets can be picked up at the Mars Hill Town Office or by going to our website: www.homecomingdays.org. A brochure can be seen on the website or picked up at spots around town.

Events for the coming week include: Wednesday will feature Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Resident’s Council at 9:30 a.m. and a Patio Social at 1:30 p.m. Thursday will feature Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and BYF Potluck Dinner at 11:00 a.m. Friday will feature LCR Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and a Patio Social at 1:30 p.m. Saturday is a free day with games, movies and puzzles available in the dayroom. Sunday will have televised church available in the day room. Monday will feature Nails by Shallie and Melissa at 9:30 a.m. and Game Time at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday will feature Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and Card Games at 1:30 p.m.
