EASTON, Maine — The Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in finding the person or people responsible for breaking into and stealing from the Easton United Baptist Church.

Late Sunday night or early Monday morning, the United Baptist Church on Centerline Road in Easton was broken into and robbed, according to a Facebook post by the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office.

Pastor Greg Jackson said that at least $100 and possibly more than $200 was stolen from various containers in the church that gather donations for mission services and Sunday school. Also stolen, he said, were his laptop and a range of office items, including thumb-drives containing church records and sermons.

Jackson said he discovered the theft when he came into his office on Monday morning. The church is not kept locked, he said, because it is an older building and is used often for different community events.

“My office has a lock on it. I never locked it, but I started Monday night,” he said, noting that the church has never been robbed in his time as pastor going back to 1993.

The crime is still under investigation and police are asking for anyone with information about what happened to come forward.

Information on the incident can be directed to Deputy Chad Foley at 800-432-7842 or via text at 207-538-8477.
