DYER BROOK, Maine — A 52-year-old Oakfield man was charged with operating under the influence following a rollover accident in Dyer Brook on Wednesday.
Just after 6:30 p.m., Michael T. Pelham lost control of his 2007 Nissan 350Z sports car while trying to negotiate a curve at high speed as he headed west on U.S. Route 2, according to a press release issued Wednesday by Maine State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Clark.
Investigating Trooper Carman Lilley reported that the car, which was headed west, crossed the east lane and went airborne before striking a utility pole. After hitting the pole, the car rolled over and travelled about 75 yards before coming to rest in a pasture.
Pelham was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, according to the release. He was transported to Houlton Regional Hospital to be treated for unspecified injuries.
The sole passenger, Larry Hersey of Oakfield, was wearing his seatbelt and was transported to the same hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening, police reported.
A spokesperson at the hospital said Wednesday that she had no information on Pelham and that Hersey was in stable condition.
Clark said the investigation continues, but that Pelham was charged with operating under the influence and driving after suspension. He is expected to make an initial appearance on the charges in Houlton District Court on Oct. 3.
