Golf event aids Junior Achievement

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Junior Achievement Aroostook Charity Golf Event will be held Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Presque Isle Country Club.

The net proceeds from the event will fund Junior Achievement programs in Aroostook County.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. A barbecue lunch will be served to all participants.

Prizes will include a first-place prize of $900 to the overall low gross team, to be recognized as the “JA Titans of Golf” champions. Other prizes include cash for the winning teams in both men and mixed divisions for low net scores. There will be awards for closest to the pin on the par-3’s, long drive and a putting contest. The hole-in-one prize will be a new car.

The prizes and barbecue are furnished by local businesses.

There is minimum handicap per team of 30 for the three-person teams. Registration is $150 per team.

Through fundraising efforts such as this, Junior Achievement provides classes and activities free to local schools in an effort to educate and inspire Maine youth to value free enterprise. Topics include everything from personal finance to entrepreneurship. Annually, more than 600 K-12 students participate in the programs in The County.
