AUGUSTA, Maine — Rita Stoddard, office and database manager for the Maine State Chamber of Commerce, urges businesses to be aware of a recent scam involving callers purporting to be from the chamber.
“It has been brought to our attention that someone is posing as the Maine State Chamber and asking businesses for contact information,” Stoddard said. “The caller ID showed the caller’s number as (207) 812-3768. If you receive a similar call, please write down the number and send it to us.”
Stoddard added the chamber is, indeed, in the process of updating its database, but its requests will come to businesses electronically.
“We may call as a follow-up, but it won’t be our initial contact with you. So to ensure your safety, feel free to ask questions and verify that you are really talking to us before you give us your information. If you prefer, hang up and call our offices directly,” she added.
