FORT KENT, Maine –Northern Maine Medical Center (NMMC) has announced the certification of Candace Hafford, the most recent member of the Finance Department to meet the training requirements established to better serve the public.
The training requirement was implemented to provide finance personnel with a more resources to assist patients in understanding their health insurance coverage.
Through a contract with a company called Healthcare Business Insights (HBI), the hospital has access to online courses through what is called HBI’s Revenue Cycle Academy.
The courses address topics that span the entire revenue cycle. This particular program included 26 classes followed by a certification exam, which Hafford successfully completed in April.
Hafford said, “The added knowledge I gained has helped me to understand the billing process from start to finish as well as providing me access to a wealth of resources that I can use to assist patients.”
Whether a patient is in the hospital, or is seeking assistance in understanding a bill, the financial counselors at NMMC can advise and assist with financial and insurance matters and required paperwork, Medicaid, the Health Care Exchange and NMMC’s charity program.
Hafford joined the finance team nearly three years ago. She resides in Allagash with her husband, Mike; they enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren in the great outdoors, camping and kayaking.
