FORT KENT, Maine — The sixth race in the County Challenge Road Racing Series was completed on Saturday, Aug. 5 and just three remain before overall and age division winners are determined.
The three remaining races are the Caribou Labor Day 8K on Sept. 4, the Caribou Marathon, Half and Relay on Sept. 17 and the Caribou Turkey Trot on Nov. 25.
At the recent UMFK 5K, Curtis Wheeler of New Sweden was the overall winner in 17 minutes and 38 seconds and his wife, Gabrielle Wheeler, was the women’s champion in 20:18. She placed fourth overall.
The overall top 10 after Curtis Wheeler consisted of runner-up Chris Rines, 19:35; third place, Thomas Beckum, 19:49; fourth, Gabrielle Wheeler; fifth, Matthew Kelly, 20:30; sixth, George Ferland, 20:37; seventh, Shane Durost, 21:23; eighth, Will Crist, 21:27; ninth, Marie Beckum, 21:43; and 10th, Steven Dubois, 21:52.
Age division winners were the Wheelers, Amy Dionne, Marie Beckum, Laura Gardiner, Crist, Rines and Dubois.
The 5K and Fun Run included 112 racers. It served as a fundraiser for the Dylan R. Levesque Memorial Scholarship and $2,200 was raised.
