Moving — Workmen are engaged in removing the Grange blacksmith shop to a new site on the Bangor St. property preparatory to the building of the new flour mill.
Purchased — A. E. Mooers has purchased the Edblad potato house at the B&A station and will use it for the handling and storage of ‘spuds’ this season.
75 Years Ago – Aug. 13, 1942
Birthday — Mrs. George W. Richard was honored at a delightful tea Thursday afternoon at her home, complimenting her on her 82nd birthday anniversary. The affair was arranged by her daughter Miss Francis Richards and Mrs. Isabelle R. Hess. The guest of honor received many lovely gifts, flowers and cards.
Visit — Mrs. Gertrude Bither of Bither’s Select Shop plans to leave Monday for the New York markets.
50 Years Ago – Aug. 16, 1967
New school — Superintendent of Schools for SAD 25, A. Harold Fenalson, has announced that the new high school for the district at Sherman Station will open its doors on schedule for the school year beginning August 21. The new school has been named the Katahdin High School and from 285 to 300 students have been registered. Arthur Wells will serve as the principal of the school and faculty members at present number 50.
Teachers — Ricker College president C. Worth Howard announced that two new instructors in English, Mrs. Virginia Mozley Smith of California, and Miss Dorothee Fahl, a native of Germany, will join the faculty this September.
25 Years Ago – Aug. 12, 1992
King and Queen — The 1992 king and queen crowned at the peanut carnival coronation last Thursday night at the Gentle Memorial Building are, Ashley Guy, daughter of Kim Guy of Houlton and Timothy Guy of New Limerick and Gabe Goodwin, son of Dr. Richard and Vicki Goodwin of Houlton.
Receives masters — Houlton resident Cynthia Hillman-Forbush recently earned her masters degree in education from the University of Maine at Orono. Forbush teaches grade two for SAD29 and is a math consultant for the Center of Innovation and Education in California.
