Praising waterway rangers

To the editor:

On a recent fishing trip to the Allagash Wilderness Waterway, I lost a special and not inexpensive knife at the Churchill Dam Boat Launch. Beyond monetary value, the knife held sentimental value as it was given as a gift in 1974 as I departed an office in Espanola, New Mexico.

I would like to commend the outstanding honesty of Tyler Stockwell, assistant Allagash ranger, who found the knife and turned it over to Kevin Brown, chief Allagash ranger. With some detective work, they figured that it must belong to me, and Ed Palys, Allagash ranger, returned the knife to me on Big Eagle Lake.

This required significant effort on their part and I am most appreciative. They are to be commended for their effort.
