Katahdin, Southern Aroostook schools reading for new year

Katahdin Elementary, Katahdin Middle/High and Southern Aroostook Community schools will open the new year on Tuesday, Sept. 5. This opening day will include students in all grades, K-12 at all schools.

Students attending Region II vocational classes should call their respective high school office with any questions or concerns. For additional information, please call 365-4218 or 757-8206 between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Pre K students at KES will have visitation on Thursday, Sept. 7, with northbound students meeting at 9 a.m. and southbound students at 1 p.m. They will begin school on Friday, Sept. 8.

Southern Aroostook Pre K parents will be receiving a call regarding date and time for Link Up Day for you and your child.

There will be registration for new students on Wednesday, Aug. 23 and Thursday, Aug. 24, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Katahdin schools and at Southern Aroostook Community School.  Those who wish to schedule an appointment, should call 365-4218 or 757-8206.

Bus pick up times will be approximately the same as last year.  Parents are asked to have their children ready a few minutes early the first few days, between 6:50-7 a.m., and plan to have them board the bus that stops at their house (not necessarily the bus they rode last year).

Student dismissal will be at 2:20 p.m. for all schools in Regional School Unit 50.

RSU 50 food service program will offer breakfast and lunch with the following prices:

– Full price lunches will be $2.15 for students in K-5, $2.25 for students in grades 6-8 and $2.40 for students in grades 9-12.  Lunches will include a choice of milk and extra milk is priced at 30 cents each.

– Full price for school breakfast:  Pre-K- 6 – 50 cents and grades 7-12 is $1.

– Adult meal prices are breakfast, $1.25 and lunch, $4.75.

Also, applications are made available for families to determine their eligibility for free and/or reduced meals. The RSU 50 schools have again received a federal grant to provide fresh fruits and vegetables for elementary students outside of the usual breakfast and lunch programs.  These items will be offered at varying times on a rotating schedule.

New staff to the RSU will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 29 at Southern Aroostook Community School for an in-service day. All other faculty and staff will return on Wednesday, Aug. 30, and Thursday, Aug. 31, for two in-service days. On Aug. 30, all staff will be at KMHS and on Aug. 31 staff will report to their respective schools for the day.
