Salvation Army food pantry supplies running low

HOULTON, Maine — The Salvation Army’s food pantry cupboards are running alarmingly low, according to Frank Nataluk, envoy and pastor at the Houlton location.

“We are asking the public to assist us with restocking the shelves as funding has been low for the summer months and the busy seasons of fall and winter are coming soon,” Nataluk said.

He encouraged individuals, civic groups, churches and businesses to bring in non-perishable cans of vegetables, fruits and meats, as well as pasta and spaghetti sauce to help replenish the supplies.

“Anything would be very helpful for the nearly 100 people we service monthly,” Nataluk added.

Monetary donations to be used for purchase of food can also be sent to the 12 Court St. office in Houlton.

The office hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Items can also be dropped off at the new Thrift Store Location at 65 Main St. in Houlton. That store is open  Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Those needing to drop items off in the evening should call ahead at 532-2322 to make sure a staff member is available.
