HOULTON, Maine — Young runners from seven high schools participated Wednesday in the first race of the Aroostook County League fall cross country series.
High school runners from Houlton, Madawaska, Washburn, Wisdom, Fort Kent and the Maine School of Science and Mathematics joined the host-Greater Houlton Christian Academy to compete in the meet.
Featuring a relay style, individual runners were paired up to split the three-mile race, with three events — co-ed, girls and boys — held at the course behind Houlton High School.
MSSM finished as the top squad, collecting 36 points, followed by Greater Houlton Christian Academy in second with 21 points, and Fort Kent and Washburn tied for third with 9 points each. Houlton finished with 8 points, Hodgdon, 6; and Madawaska, 4.
MSSM also had the top runners in each of the three categories — boys race, girls race and co-ed.
David Govini of MSSM finished first in the single lap, exhibition event with a time of 10:01, while Shane Scott of Washburn, was second at 11:19; and Ean Bolstridge of Houlton was third at 12:17.
