We have had a wonderful golf season so far and there is still a lot of time left to enjoy a few great rounds. High School golf season has begun and students will be playing their matches in the afternoon. Both Houlton and Hodgdon have teams.
Coming this Sunday will be our popular Cross Country 3 par tournament. This four-member team scramble is open to all golfers and the proceeds will go to the Houlton High School Project Graduation. Call the proshop for more info and to sign up.
The Lakeside Restaurant was a jumping place this weekend as Paul LaPointe entertained the diners and the crowd from the social night for the Babe Caron Memorial tournament. Saturday night was packed after the first day of play. On both days, Chef Bill and Aaron manned the grill and served up burgers, brats, and dogs. Call Nancy and reserve your table for a delicious dinner, 694-9494.
The Babe Caron Memorial Member -Guest tournament went off without a glitch. The course was in mint condition, the weather outstanding and the pins were exciting. Thank you, Bob. I would also like to thank the entire staff for a beautiful golf course and for making everything go smoothly in the clubhouse.
First day winners were Sean Dolomont and Bruce Avery at eight under par. They were followed by Bill Dwyer and Scott Walker in second place; Ray Mailman and Reggie Grant in third; and Gabe Goodwin and Mike Weston fourth.
Congrats to the team of Dan Peabody and Chris Cheney, who fired a fantastic 17-under par in windy conditions. Second place went to Ray Mailman and Reggie Grant at 13-under. The duo needed to win a playoff with Steve Nelson and Caleb Bell II, who finished third. Fourth place was won in a playoff by Bill Dwyer and Scott Walker, at 10-under, defeating Pam Mailman and Dick Lindsey, who finished fifth.
On Friday night, the long drive contest was won by Kelley Cates with a drive of 290 yards, narrowly defeating Alex Donovan. The chipping contest was won by Collin Moody, who chipped into the four-foot pool on the very first shot. Nobody else came close. Thanks to all who played and helped make the weekend fun.
School started this week so it’s a great time to play an undisturbed round. See you on the course.
