Soccer squads ramping up for busy week

Boys and girls soccer teams had trouble getting on the field this past week due to several days of rain. And because of that, the upcoming week will see many soccer squads playing multiple games.

The following is a recap of soccer games played through Monday that were reported to the newspaper.

Girls Soccer

Hodgdon 2, Katahdin 2 — At Hodgdon Tuesday, Sabra Scott scored both goals for the Hawks — one in each half of regulation. Mikyla Howland had an assist.

For Katahdin first half goal Emma McNally and Erin Lake both scored solo goals, with Lake also adding an assist.

Hodgdon 4, Woodland 0 — At Woodland Friday, Emma Drew’s two goals led Hodgdon to the win. Sidney Crane and Sabra Scott added goals for the Hawks. Autumn Ganzel saved 13 of 17 shots for the Hawks, while Sadie Smith collected 12 saves on 19 shots for Woodland.

Houlton 8, Calais 1 — At Houlton Friday, Kolleen Bouchard recorded three first-half goals as the Shires rolled past Calais. Bouchard also had a goal in the second half, along with two assists. Sierra Hoops tallied three goals and an assist. Rebecca Mooers also had a goal.

Tessa Solomon saved two of four shots. Sophie McVicar scored Calais’ goal with Lauren Cook coming up with 11 saves on 26 shots.

Katahdin 7, East Grand 0 — At Stacyville Friday, the Cougars (1-1) recorded the shutout as Katahdin junior Erin Lake scored five goals to lead the way. Danielle Libby and Lindsay Drew each had one goal. Emma McNally had two assists, while Savannah O’Hara added one.

Senior Natalie Rickards had three saves, while Eighth grader Nakita Keim had two saves for Katahdin as the two shared time in goal. Jordan Cowger had 13 saves on 29 shots for East Grand (0-2).

Boys Soccer

Hodgdon 3, Katahdin 2 — At Hodgdon, Dylan Oliver scored his second goal late in the game to lift the Hawks to victory. Josh Palmer tallied the other goal for Hodgdon with Josh Foster providing an assist. Michael Sanders made six saves on 10 shots.

Bradley Hotham and Rigoberto Otero scored a goal each for Katahdin of Stacyville. Tanner Lane made 10 saves on 19 shots.

Houlton 3, Calais 0 — At Houlton Friday, Keegan Gentle tallied two goals and Nick Perfitt added one to lift Houlton past Calais. Keegan Gentle scored the first two goals in the eighth and 15th minutes of the second half on assists from Alex Wilde and Zach Fitzpatrick. Nick Perfitt added a goal with 6 minutes left in the game on a corner kick from Abe Lorom.  

Houlton’s AJ Henderson had three saves on three shots, while Calais keeper Cody Pellerin stopped 18 of 25 shots. The Shires improved to 2-0 with the win, while Calais dropped to 1-1-1.  

Katahdin 2, East Grand 0 — At Stacyville Friday, the Katahdin boys completed the sweep of East Grand with a 2-0 shutout. Bradley Hotham scored two first-half goals that stood up as Katahdin improved to (1-1). East Grand dropped to 0-2.

Rigoberto Otero assisted on one of the goals for Katahdin. Tanner Lane had six saves on eight shots. Brady McEwen compiled seven saves on 16 shots for the Vikings.

“With a strong defensive effort in the second half, led by goalie Tanner Lane our defense held on for the shutout,” coach Dylan Harris said.

Ashland 8, Southern Aroostook 0 — The Hornets won for just the second time this season thanks to an offensive explosion against the visiting Warriors Saturday. Parker O’Clair powered Ashland (2-3-1) with three goals and Alex Kaiser netted two. Mason Deabay also scored, while both Mason Moro and Brady Holmes provided their first career goals. SA in now 0-2.
