Hawks defeat Hornets in golf

Hodgdon hosted Ashland at the Houlton Community Golf Course Monday in a makeup match and the Hawks were victorious 220-237 in medal play and 8-1 in match play.

For Ashland, Graham Barry shot a 52 followed by Jack Routhier, 62; Sean Montpetit, 60; Tristan Pelletier, 63; and Kolson Condon, 64. Andrew Tuttle of Hodgdon was the medalist with a 49.

The Aroostook League Championships will take place Monday, Sept. 18 at Mars Hill Country Club beginning at 8 a.m.

Southern Aroostook, Hodgdon, Ashland and Central Aroostook are the teams vying for the title and hoping to qualify for the state tournament as a team and have individual golfers qualify for the individual state tourney. Both events take place at Natanis Golf Club in Vassalboro next month.

Grasshoppers to play PIHS squad

The Special Olympic Grasshoppers will play a soccer game Wednesday, Sept. 20 against the Presque Isle High School boys’ team.

The match will take place beginning at 7 p.m. at the Johnson Athletic Complex on the Presque Isle Middle School campus.

Carl Michaud, the director of administration for the Central Aroostook Association, said this year’s Grasshopper team includes 25 players, which is a large increase from the inaugural season in 2016.

Basketball officiating classes

The International Association of Approved Basketball Officials Board 150 is offering an officiating school for new officials beginning Sept. 25 at Presque Isle High School.
