HOULTON, Maine — A desire to quickly help the victims of Hurricane Harvey prompted a fundraising effort by Katahdin Trust employees that resulted in a $2,750 gift to the American Red Cross of Aroostook County on Friday, Sept. 8.
“Our staff wanted to do something to help families suffering from the devastating losses,” explains Krista Putnam, vice president of marketing. “In response, a dress down day was held and participating employees could donate any amount in exchange for the privilege to dress casually and wear jeans. The bank provided a 100 percent match of employee contributions. In addition, a number of gifts were given by our customers who visited our branches that day. We are pleased to combine our efforts with others in our communities to help make a difference for those in need.”
The Red Cross is working closely with the entire response community — government agencies, other nonprofit groups, faith-based organizations, area businesses and others — to coordinate emergency relief efforts and get help to people as quickly as possible.
“This is amazing! It warms my heart to see the care and concern that the people of Aroostook County have for the people affected by Hurricane Harvey,” says Mary Green, community manager, American Red Cross of Aroostook County. “The relief effort underway in Texas and Louisiana will likely last for several years. People have lost their homes and all their possessions, and regretfully some have lost loved ones. We have always been a community that cares about others and this gift is certainly no exception. We appreciate the support provided by Katahdin Trust.”
